ResolutionRegardingGraduateScholars,Fellows,Trainees,andAssistants
Acceptanceofanofferoffinancialsupport(suchasagraduatescholarship,fellowship,traineeship,orassistantship)forthenextacademicyearbyaprospectiveorenrolledgraduatestudentcompletesanagreementthatbothstudentandgraduateschoolexpecttohonor.Inthatcontext,theconditionsaffectingsuchoffersandtheiracceptancemustbedefinedcarefullyandunderstoodbyallparties.StudentsareundernoobligationtorespondtooffersoffinancialsupportpriortoApril15;earlierdeadlinesforacceptanceofsuchoffersviolatetheintentofthisResolution.InthoseinstancesinwhichastudentacceptsanofferbeforeApril15,andsubsequentlydesirestowithdrawthatacceptance,thestudentmaysubmitinwritingaresignationoftheappointmentatanytimethroughApril15.However,anacceptancegivenorleftinforceafterApril15commitsthestudentnottoacceptanotherofferwithoutfirstobtainingawrittenreleasefromtheinstitutiontowhichacommitmenthasbeenmade.Similarly,anofferbyaninstitutionafterApril15isconditionalonpresentationbythestudentofthewrittenreleasefromanypreviouslyacceptedoffer.ItisfurtheragreedbytheinstitutionsandorganizationsubscribingtotheaboveResolutionthatacopyofthisResolutionshouldaccompanyeveryscholarship,fellowship,traineeship,andassistantshipoffer.
